The Tsuglakang Temple at the center of Lhasa is a great repository of works of art from the 8th century up to the present. This page of sculpture exhibits a selection of teachers from most traditions of Tibetan Buddhism in a range of sculptural and artistic styles. Like painting, sculpture can also have unique styles and stylistic traditions created by famous artists and family traditions. (Not all of the images in the Tsuglakang Temple selection have been catalogued at this time).

The Tibet House Collection Main Page has been updated and re-organized with added sets pages and a new page for the Miscellanous Paintings.
"Tibet House was established in 1965 by His Holiness the Dalai Lama for the purpose of preserving the unique cultural heritage of Tibet at a time when it faced extinction in its homeland, as well as for providing a centre for Tibetan and Buddhist studies".
For an overview of the art holdings of Tibet House see the Tibet House Quick Guide. The collection of paintings have been placed in one large gallery which also serves as the Tibet House Main Page. It is somewhat awkward to navigate because of the size and also because of the sets included.
A separate page has been created for the Miscellaneous Paintings that are not that great in number compared with the sets of paintings. The strength of the Tibet House Collection is the vast number of sets - mostly complete. There is a small Textile Gallery and a separate Sculpture Gallery. Other than identifying each sculptural piece the sculpture has not yet been divided up into type, subject or sets.
Painting Sets:
1. Arhat Set (complete)
2. Avadana Stories Set (complete)
3. 7th Dalai Lama Biography Set (complete)

The Painting Sets Image continues to be added to all record pages where the single image of a painting belongs to a multiple painting set. In some cases the sets image indicates the exact number of paintings in the complete composition. Sometimes the image is also linked to other paintings from that same set.
Recently Completed Collections with Sets Images:
American Museum of Natural History, New York
The Field Museum of Natural History, Chicago

"In April 2009, the Alain Bordier Foundation opened the Tibet Museum in the heart of the medieval town of Gruyères in the French speaking part of Switzerland.
The Tibet Museum houses an important collection of Buddhist sculptures, paintings, and ritual objects. It consists of about three hundred objects, mainly originating from Tibet. Among the statues, however, are a number of objects that were manufactured in the ancient Buddhist cultures surrounding Tibet: rare Buddhist sculptures from Nepal, Kashmir, Swat, and other Himalaya regions, in addition to examples from Northern India and Burma (Myanmar). Like other collectors of Tibetan art, Alain Bordier established his collection during the last quarter of the 20th century, when Tibetan refugees brought great numbers of religious objects into exile in India and Nepal. It was the wish of Alain Bordier to share his fascination with as many people as possible and to preserve and hold together these miraculously preserved sacred objects.
For this purpose he has founded the Alain Bordier Foundation to preserve the Buddhist collection and to maintain the Tibet Museum." Ulrich von Schroeder
The Tibet Museum Collection:
- Tibetan Paintings
- Tibetan Sculpture 1
- Tibetan Sculpture 2
- Nepal: Painting & Sculpture
- Swat Region & Kashmir
- North Eastern India & Burma

So far, in the United States, there are sixty-two (62) museums in twenty-one (21) states that have been identified as having collections of
Himalayan & Tibetan style art. It is very likely that there are a number of other museums out there not yet identified. Twenty (20) of these museums with images from their collections are currently represented on the Himalayan Art Resources (HAR) website. The HAR staff are continuing to contact and work with other museums in the
United States,
Canada,
Europe and
Asia, to encourage their participation in this global cultural endeavor.
