It is often said, but rarely practiced, that Bon depictions of the meditation gesture place the left hand over the right while the Buddhists always have the right hand on top of the left. This gallery offers several examples of the meditation gesture with the left hand over the right. All of the examples below belong to the Bon religion. There are currently no known textual references or images of a Buddhist figure with the left hand placed on top of the right.
