The art of Orgyan Chopel 'New Visions in Thangkas' is deeply inspired by the symbolic imagery of Tantric Buddhism. More specifically he has drawn from the often unappreciated ritual art of the Initiation Card. Traditionally trained as an incarnate Lama with a non-sectarian approach Chopel has managed to incorporate traditional imagery steeped in various levels of meaning with a modern fresh vision. The paintings are figurative but also appear surreal allowing the viewer to interpret and ponder on the artist's meaning, or interpret anew from one's own perspective and unique personal experience. (See the Contemporary Art Main Page).
