Kar ma pa Biographical Details

Karma Pakshi, the 2nd Karmapa (1206-1283): teacher to the Mongol emperor of China and a popularly acknowledged early incarnate lama of Tibet. The figure of Karma Pakshi with the two hands extended across the knees is a shared posture with the 3rd Karmapa Rangjung Dorje. The two can be differentiated by the appearance of a goatee unique only to Karma Pakshi, or by a name inscription on a painting or around the base of a sculpture.
