Painting Set: Red Ground (Penn Museum)

Red Ground Painting Set | Penn Museum Main Page

The two paintings, Amitayus Buddha and Tara, belong to a larger set of unknown size, possibly as few as three compositions or many more. Each painting has a a red hand print on the reverse side along with a seal and a brief four line inscription in praise of the deity depicted on the front. Aside from the seal on the back, which can possibly be identified, there are no names or dates found in the inscriptions of either painting.
