The Great Applique Tangka of Drepung Monastery

A clang of cymbals announces the start of the unveiling and Tibetan horn blasts mark the full appearance of the Buddha. Here the monks examine a conch shell which they've been blowing on and off throughout the afternoon. They too stand at the top of the tangka looking down below at the magnificence of the banner. A second type of banner mounted on a pole flaps in the wind.
