Interpretation / Description

13th Gyalwa Karmapa, Dudul Dorje (1733/34-1797/98): with an image of Tara above and lineage teachers at the sides and below. At the top right is the 10th Shamar - red hat Karmapa.

Kar ma pa Biographical Details

The right hand is extended across the right knee in the gesture (mudra) of supreme generosity and the left holds a folio book in the lap. Attired in the garb of a monk the head is adorned with the black hat - a gift of the Ming emperor Yung Lo to the 5th Karmapa.
