Ratnasambhava Buddha and consort (Tibetan: rin chen jung den, sang gye) and below id Ratna Heruka and consort surrounded by retinue figures. As one of the five principal buddhas within Vajrayana Buddhism, he represents the qualities of enlightenment and governs the southern quarter of a mandala. Along the bottom and filling the foreground are gruesome and detailed hell scenes.

This painting is from a larger set of at least five paintings depicting the Buddhas and peaceful and wrathful deities (Tib.: shi tro) of thr Guhyagarbha mandala.
