Ratnasambhava, Buddha (Tibetan: rin chen jung den, sang gye): with the peaceful form above and the wrathful form below, surrounded by appropriate retinue figures. As one of the five principal buddhas within Vajrayana Buddhism, he represents the qualities of enlightenment and governs the southern quarter of a mandala. Along the bottom and filling the foreground are gruesome and detailed hell scenes.

This is 1 painting from a larger set of at least 5 depicting the buddhas - peaceful and wrathful deities (Tib.: shi tro) of the state between life and death (Tib.: bar do)
