Avalokiteshvara, as a previous incarnation of the Dalai Lama. This composition belongs to a larger set of paintings of an unknown number.

At the top right is Maitreya, orange in colour, with one face and two hands. He is holding a dharma wheel on a lotus in the right, and a water flask on a lotus in the left. Below that is the deity Tara known as ''Very Heroic" from the Suryagupta Tradition of Twenty-One Taras. On the top far left side is Sakyamuni Buddha. Below on the left side is an unidentified Indian teacher. At the top center is Amitabha Buddha.

At the bottom left side is Shadbhuja Mahakala, with one face and six arms. In the bottom center is White Achala. On the bottom right side is an unidentified red deity with one face and four hands. Two hands are at the heart, one right hand is making the gesture of protection, one left hand is holding a vase.

It is most likely that this is the first painting in this set, because Avalokiteshvara is the first pre-incarnation of the Dalai Lama and "Very Heroic" is the first in the set of Twenty-One Taras by Suryagupta.
