Interpretation / Description

Atisha, Dipamkara: belonging to a set of Atisha life story paintings in gold on a red background.

Atisha wears monastic robes and a red pandita hat. He is accompanied by two attendant figures seated at the sides and similarly attired. The remainder of the composition is filled with small narrative vignettes.

At the top center is the meditational deity Guhyasamaja. At the bottom center is the wisdom protector Shadbhuja Mahakala.
