Interpretation / Description

Milarepa.

Directly above the central large figure of Milarepa is Marpa Chokyi Lodro (1012-1096). Above that is Vajradhara Buddha, blue in colour. At the proper right side is Tilopa. On the left side is Naropa. The composition is filled with many small narrative scenes depicting the life story of Milarepa.

At the bottom of the composition on the right and left sides are the Eight Great Mahasiddha according to the Palpung system developed by Situ Panchen Chokyi Jungne.

On the left side ar Ghantapa, Dombi Heruka, Padmasambhava, Indrabhuti, Kukkuripa and Lawapa. On the right side are Padmavajra, Nagarjuna and Saraha.

Seated at the center of the lower composition are the 12 Karmapa Janchub Dorje (1703-1732) and the 8th Shamar Palchen Chokyi (1695-1732). Below to the proper right side of Karmapa is Siti Panchen Chokyi Jungne (1700-1774).
