Interpretation / Description

Milarepa.

The artist chose to depict him without long flowing hair, but he is still making the distinct singing hand gesture of Milarepa.

The disciple sitting next to him is Rechungpa, because his iconic conical white hat is placed on a stone next to him, he is not wearing it.

Tseringma the worldly protector is below Milarepa, depicted as a female deity wearing Tibetan robes and riding a lion. This refers to the account of how Tseringma and her retinue appeared to Milarepa to test his resolve, but after he demonstrated his meditative attainments they requested teachings from him.
