Interpretation / Description

Dorje Zulema: part of an eleven painting set of compositions depicting the life story of King Gesar.

Dorje Zulema is peaceful in appearance and slightly reddish in colour. In the upraised right hand she holds a wish-fulfilling jewel. In the left hand cradled at the side is a mongoose. With flowers in the hair and dressed in Tibetan garments she rides atop a tiger mount.

At the top center is Vajra Varahi. Seated to her proper rights side is Guhyachandra wearing the attire of a lay practitioner. At her left side is Lhasrin Drankol in the appearance of a monastic practitioner.
