Baatarkhuyagiin Purevbat (1965–2024) was a Mongolian painter, art collector, museum director and Buddhist teacher. He first studied painting with two Mongolian teachers named Danzan Lama and Dorje Jangchen Lama, and in 1990 he traveled to Tibetan communities in India and Nepal for further training. Lama Purevbat founded the Zanabazar Mongolian Institute of Buddhist Art in 1993 and the Mongolian Traditional Art and Culture Center in 1996 as part of his effort to help revive Buddhism in Mongolia after the collapse of the Soviet Union. These institutes continue to train students in the Mongolian traditions of Buddhist art including painting, sculpture and embroidery.
Stylistically several of his most distinct paintings can be characterized by attempts at realism when depicting the bodies of deities, although he just as often painted in a typical Mongolian tradition which resembles Tibetan scrollwork painting. He also paid attention to animals in art and even created iconometric measurements to draw them precisely and realistically.
