Artist: Pei Zhuangxin (裴庄欣)
Pei Zhuangxin (裴庄欣) (b.1956) is a renowned Chinese oil painter born in Chengdu, Sichuan Province. In 1971, he worked as a mechanic for a motor transport team in the Chamdo region of Tibet. From 1978 to 1982, Pei studied at the Oil Painting Department of the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute. Upon graduating, he took a position at the Tibet Autonomous Region Revolutionary Exhibition Hall and in the same year founded the first Tibetan Art Training Class. In 1987 he established the “Tibet Gallery” in Lhasa. In 1989 he received a scholarship from the US-China Education Foundation to study in the United States, graduating from the Department of Art at the State University of New York in 1991.
In 2006, Pei returned to China and founded the Pei Zhuangxin Studio. He currently lives and works in Beijing. His works are held in numerous public collections including the Tibet Art Museum (Lhasa), the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute Art Museum (Chongqing), the Rodin International Artists
Foundation (Washington), Rutgers – The State University of New Jersey, among others. He is a member of the China Artists Association, the Tibet Autonomous Region Artists Association, and the Tibet Autonomous Region Photographers Association.
Pei is a versatile artist who has expertise in both impressionism and realism in his paintings. A few examples of his works are shown below.
Pei also took photos of Gongkar Chode and Nechung Monastery in the 1980s, providing valuable historical information about the state of their murals before any later restoration and conservation work.
