Tritsen Rabten (khri btsan rab brtan) studied with Tenpa Rabten and two artists named Tseten Namgyal and Tsering Jampel.

He founded a painting school with two branches: the Lhasa Zhangzhung Thangka Art School and the Sichuan Songpan Zhangzhung Art School. His schools are named after Zhangzhung because he has made an effort to paint subjects from Bon religion and pre-Buddhist Tibetan history such as the early kings of the Tibetan Yarlung dynasty.
