There are two principal subjects of textile art: figurative and decorative. The three main techniques of textile art are applique, embroidery and weaving. All three are used to create the three subject types of scrollwork compositions such as figurative, narrative and diagrammatic art as is also typical for painted works. Textile productions of these subject types are also called 'tangka' in Tibetan cultural regions and 'paubha' in Nepal.
