Collection of Yale University Beinecke Rare Book & Manuscript Library

Beinecke Library Main Page | Yale University Art Gallery Collection

The Beinecke Library has a collection of approximately seventy Himalayan art paintings. The compositions vary greatly as to regional origin but are primarily from the broad areas of Nepal, Tibet, China and Mongolia. It is also possible that some are from Ladakh, India. Eleven paintings from the collection are especially noteworthy for their quality or subject rarity. Approximately half of the works in the Beinecke collection are part of larger painting sets and previously unknown. No other works from those same sets have yet been identified in museum of private collections. From the pint of view of subject three painting sets are completely unique and previously unknown.
