A selection of early sculptural figures that hold a vajra scepter. The current shape of the vajra as it is known today was fairly confidently established by the Pala period of North India. The Gandharan and Swat styles for depicting the vajra show more of a rectangular shaped object which is thinner in the middle and wider at the ends.
