Painting Set: Buddhas of the Three Times (Gelug)

Dipamkara, Shakyamuni and Maitreya Buddha, three composition painting set.

Shakyamuni Buddha along with Shariputra and Maudgalyayana are accompanied on the left and right sides by the Eight Great Bodhisattvas. At the top center is Tsongkapa. At the lower left and right are Hvashang and Dharmatala. At the bottom center is Shadbhuja Mahakala.

Dipamkara Buddha is accompanied by eight of the Sixteen Great Elders. At the top center is Arapachana Manjushri. At the lower right and left are two of the Direction Kings. At the bottom center is 'Outer' Yama Dharmaraja.

Maitreya Buddha is accompanied by eight of the Sixteen Great Elders. At the top center is White Tara. At the lower right and left are two of the Direction Kings. At the bottom center is Shri Devi Magzor Gyalmo.

There are no apparent inscriptions on the front of the paintings. It is unknown if there are any back inscriptions. The compositions are affiliated with the Gelug tradition of Tibetan Buddhism and appear to date from the 18th to 19th centuries. The specific style of painting is currently unknown but appears to follow after the New Menri Tradition of painting.
