In all examples the hand and foot prints belong to the current Karmapa at the time of the creation of the painting. Paintings HAR #508, 22728 and 57024 depict the Karmapa and the footprints as being of the same person.

A few of the compositions are portraying the figure of Karmapa from a previous generation such as HAR #22396, 59367 and 93848. The hand and foot prints of these paintings are contemporaneous with the creation of the composition and not replicating the prints of the feet or hands of the earlier Karmapa being depicted in the painting.
