Arhat Set X | Tibet House Main Page | Arhats Main Page

Shakyamuni Buddha and the Sixteen Arhats in a nineteen painting set and a Chinese painting style. The central, first, painting of the set containing Shakyamuni Buddha and the two principal disciples, Shariputra and Maudgalyayana, has in the upper portion of the composition Amitayus Buddha at the center and Dipamkara Buddha on the left and Maitreya Buddha on the right. All but four of the remaining paintings have Amitayus Buddha in the upper right or left of the composition.

The Four Guardian Kings are located in the last four paintings paired with Chudapantaka, Abheda, Hvashang and Dharmatala.

Often a typical set such as this would have twenty-three compositions and a total of twenty-five figures.
