PALPUNG MONASTERY
Palpung Tubden Chokhorling Monastery is the seat of H.E. Situ Rinpoche and one of the most important Kagyu monasteries in Tibet. It was founded by the eighth Situ Rinpoche in 1717 and was the home of Jamgon Kongtrul Lodrotaye, one of the principal founders of the Ri-me, or non-sectarian, movement in the late 19th century. Jamgon Kongtrul's activity incarnation, Kalu Rinpoche, was the meditation master at Palpung for many years, after which he established his principal monastery in Sonada, Darjeeling, India and founded meditation centers throughout the world.
