Images of Kham

PAINTED DOORWAY
Most of the monasteries in Kham were seriously damaged in the Cultural Revolution of the late 1960's. Today Chinese government policies are allowing restoration of many of these sites. Although the quality of the restoration skills vary, much is excellent. Shown here is the doorway of Ganden Tubchen Chokhorling, a Gelugpa monastery in Litang. Litang was the birthplace of the 7th Dalai Lama, as foretold in the last poem written by the 6th Dalai Lama.
