Interpretation / Description

Shakyamuni, Buddha (Tibetan: sha kya tu pa, sang gye, English: the Enlightened One of the Shakya Clan) with the two main students Shariputra and Maudgalyayana standing at the sides.

The central figures are surrounded by the 35 Confession Buddhas. At the bottom are the three principal bodhisattvas, orange Manjushri, white Avalokiteshvara and blue Vajrapani.
