Interpretation / Description

Gonpo Paldzin. Panchen Chogle Namgyal.

There are two famous teachers with the title and name Panchen Chogle Namgyal. The more well known of the two is Bodong Panchen (1376-1451 [TBRC P2627]) a student of Tegchen Choje Kunga Tashi. The slightly lesser known but chronologically earlier is Jonang Panchen (1306-1386 [P152]) a student of Dolpopa Sonam Gyaltsen. These two figures can be easily confused if there are no clear inscriptions on sculpture or surrounding contextual figures on paintings.
