Interpretation / Description

Dharmatala, Hvashanag and Kalika. This composition belongs to a five painting set depicting Shakyamuni Buddha and the Sixteen Great Elders. (Right 3).

At the bottom are two of the Four Great Kings of the Directions. On the left is Vaishravana holding a parasol. On the right is Virupaksha holding a stupa.

The set of compositions are done in a late Khyenri painting style as evidenced by the multi coloured clouds, character faces, along with open landscape and negative space.
