Notes about the Central Figure

Classification: Deity

Interpretation / Description

Treasure Guardian, Padmasambhava as a Wealth Deity. In the appearance of a king he has a furrowed brow with large gazing eyes. In the right hand extended across the knee he holds a vase decorated with a branch of red coral. In the left hand placed in the lap he holds a wish-fulfilling jewel.

At the left side of the composition stands Mandarava and on the right side is Yeshe Tsogyal.

At the top of the composition are three teachers. At the center and to the left they wear monastic attire. The figure on the far right wears what appears to be Chinese clothing.

Various wrathful figures dance to sides and below the large central figure.

On the reverse of the painting there are three separate inscriptions. The first (upper) portion is written in Dakini script, a secret alphabet designed by Nyingma 'Tertons (Treasure Revealers/finders). The second four lines is written in U-me script, and the third is in a hand writing style.
