Notes about the Central Figure
Sakya Pandita, Shariputra and Sonam Choglang. These three figures are all considered previous incarnations of the Panchen Lama incarnation line from a five painting set.
The figures in the painting are based on the Nartang composition of the previous lives of the Panchen Lamas including the first three recognized Panchens. The original set was first created at the time of the 3rd Panchen Lama, Palden Yeshe (1738-1780). Jeff Watt 7-2014
