Interpretation / Description

Ajita, Rahula and Pindola Bharadvaja (or Chudapantaka): from a set of seven or nine paintings depicting Shakyamuni Buddha and the Sixteen Arhats traveling to the court of the Chinese Emperor. In this painting three arhats are depicted riding on the back of a giant carp fish. In the full composition other arhats are riding tigers, water monsters, turtles or floating on lotus petals.
