Interpretation / Description

Sword of Achala. Kamakura Period. Nara National Museum.

Achala himself can sometimes be represented simply by the sword of wisdom with an entwined dragon. In the Japanese language this is known as Kurikara Fudo (倶利伽羅不動). This painting is officially classified by the Japanese Government's Agency for Cultural Affairs as an important cultural property (zhuyoubunkazai).
