Interpretation / Description

Shakyamuni Buddha and the Thirty-five Confession Buddhas from the Mahayana Buddhist Confession Sutra according to the Ludrub (Nagarjuna) iconographic system. This composition belongs to a seven painting set. Each painting contains five of the Thirty-five Buddhas. At the top center and is a deity or possibly an image of a teacher. At the bottom center is a wealth deity of possibly a protector deity. In this example, at the top center is Amitayus Buddha. At the bottom center is Yellow Jambhala.
