Interpretation / Description

Shakyamuni Buddha and the Thirty-five Confession Buddhas from the Mahayana Buddhist Confession Sutra according to the Ludrub (Nagarjuna) iconographic system. This is perhaps the best and clearest iconographic depiction of this subject so far to be identified in any collection. The painting is a single composition and does not belong to a set of paintings.
