Masterworks portraying Khon teachers need to be studied from the three perspectives of chronology, painting style and region. Some of the dates are approximations with the object being earlier of later. Some paintings are dated according to the life dates of the central teacher such as Kunga Sonam and Wangdu Nyingpo. The early paintings belong to Indian and Nepalese style : HAR #101374, 30925, 55693, 87230. The remaining paintings are in a middle period Menri and Khyenri style painting. Only two compositions are identified as belonging to Eastern Tibet and dated to the 18th and 19th centuries, #35847 and 617.
Some examples below are chosen for the unique subject or rarity, others are chosen for style and quality.
