The vast majority of both painting and sculpture of Green Tara depict her with the right hand extended forward in a gesture of generosity with the fingers pointed downward and the palm facing upward. Some iconographic forms of Tara that are explained in ritual texts describe her with the hand slightly raised with the fingers upward and the palm facing forward in a gesture of fearlessness.
