Indian style painting is how Tibetans referred to the Buddhist paintings of the 11th through 13th centuries. The painting of that time had a distinctive look regardless of the religious tradition and subject of the painting. The principal subjects of the paintings are teachers, deities and mandalas.
The period of the Taglung school following the Indian style of painting began in approximately 1170 around the time of the passing of Pagmodrubpa Dorje Gyalpo (1110-1170 [p127]). The painting tradition continued until the early 1300s.
