Tantric cycles refers to all of the various images belonging to a tantric system based on one or more Buddhist Sanskrit texts. It is common to have sets of paintings created that represent one large Tantric cycle. Popular subjects are Kalachakra, Hevajra, Chakrasamvara, Yogini, Mahakala and others. Tantric cycles are differentiated from a compendium because in a cycle all the figures are related to the original source text and belong to the same tantric theory.
