Notes about the Central Figure

Classification: Deity

Interpretation / Description

Akshobhya, the Youthful Teacher with five accompanying figures. (ston pa khye'u mi 'khrugs pa from the system of sde gsum nang skor yi dam zhi ba). The six figures appearing like Buddhas are being born from eggs and represent 'egg birth' in the Buddhist Abhidharma theory. It is not clear whether this buddha named 'Akshobhya' in Sanskrit translation has any relationship with the Akshobhya Buddha belonging to the set of Five Symbolic (or directional mandala) Buddhas.
