Interpretation / Description

Tara 17 Deity Mandala (Tibetan: drol ma chu dun kyil kor): comprising the Five Buddha Families and consorts, according to the tradition of Ravigupta.

An inscription below the lower register of the front composition dedicates the painting to Konchog Pelwa (1445-1514) the 7th abbot of Ngor Ewam monastery and a teacher of Konchog Lhundrub the 10th abbot of Ngor monastery. The painting was commissioned by Rigpa Dzinpa Lhachog Sengge (1468-1535) the 9th abbot of Ngor monasteryu.
