Interpretation / Description

Mount Kailash, Tibet: A Pilgrimage Painting. The composition is likely to be of Taglung or Drigung origin.

At the top center in a rainbow sphere is Shakyamuni Buddha surrounded by Vajradhara Buddha, Tilopa, Naropa, Marpa, Milarepa, Gampopa, Pagmodrubpa and two others. At the upper left is an image of Tsongkapa and on the right is Chaturbhuja Lokeshvara. At the two corners are Green Tara and White Tara.

Several deities populating the narrative scenes can be identified such as Rakta Yamari, Vajravarahi, Shingkyong Yab-Yum, and a Mahakala figure.
