Compendium painting sets are based on texts that bring together many deity descriptions into a single manual for initiation or practice. The most famous of the Indian texts is the Vajravali compiled by Abhayakara Gupta in the 11th century. Other texts are the Sadhanamala, Bari Gyatsa, Rinjung Gyatsa and others.
