Vajrasattva and Vajrapani in peaceful form can in certain circumstances be identical in appearance. The context and surrounding figures in painted compositions will generally inform as to the correct identity. With sculptural examples it can be impossible to know for sure the intended deity created by the artist. The same is true for sculptural representations of Heruka Vajrasattva and Vajradhara with consort. The two can appear identical although sometimes ornamentation such as bone ornaments might be an indication towards an identification of Heruka Vajrasattva.
