Vajrapani with non-iconic appearance are depictions of the bodhisattva based primarily on Sutra tradition textual sources portraying him in natural poses representing a student of Shakyamuni Buddha, Amitabha, and others, from the Mahayana Sutras.

There are two common number set configurations for non-iconic Vajrapani:
- Three Lords of the World
- Eight Great Bodhisattva
- Others...

Many of the standing figures of Vajrapani can belong either to the two common number sets above or were created as secondary figures standing alongside depictions of Shakyamuni or Amitabha Buddha.
